We met up with John at his swimming base, the Warrnamnbool Yacht Club to talk about his current personal challenge to complete 100 consecutive winter open water swims. On the day we caught up, John was on swim number 93.

Having moved to Warrnambool 16 years ago to take up his role as a botanist in the local botanical gardens, John has made the ‘bool his open water swimming haven. However, unlike the locals, John has managed to leave the town to explore many of the world’s open water swimming destinations.

We talk about his winter challenge, the pursuit of happiness and his global adventures + the two swimming-related tattoos he sports.
