Interview number: 009
Interviewee: Gavin Rafferty, participated in all 40 Lorne Pier to Pub events (and counting)
Venue: Geelong, Victoria
We met up with Gavin at his home in Geelong, a short drive up the Great Ocean Road from Lorne, the location of the iconic Lorne Pier To Pub which he has swum in all 40 events (one of only two, the other being Wayne Bourke).
Gavin, a Surf Coast local, has a proud involvement in surf lifesaving in the area and now counts three generations of lifesavers and open water swimmers in his family. We talked about the history of the Pier To Pub, how the event has changed over the years and the enjoyment he gets from sharing his love of the ocean with his children and grandchildren.
In this snippet from the full podcast interview, Gavin talks about how the Lorne Pier to Pub came to be and what it was like in the early years.
