Itinerary

Here’s a typical taste of what your tour might look like; a balance of unforgettable swims, island exploring, and laid-back moments:

01

Welcome aboard

Settle into your cabin, meet your crew, and feel the buzz as we set sail from Airlie Beach into the heart of the Whitsundays. Soak in the views, breathe in the sea air, and ease into life on the water.

02

Swim, explore, repeat

Wake to a calm bay and island views. You’ll kick off with a relaxed morning swim before tucking into a hot breakfast. In between the swims, snorkel over reef teeming with fish, swing from the rope line, or simply unwind on deck.

03

A day to sink in

Start your day with an invigorating swim before island time; think sun lounging, bow net snoozing, then another soulful swim. As the sun begins to set, you’ll share drinks and laughs on a secluded beach, then wind down with a history talk to end the day.

04

Whitehaven magic

This is your postcard moment. Swim over turquoise water alongside Whitehaven Beach, walk to the famous Hill Inlet lookout, and soak up the breathtaking scenery. After lunch onboard, you’ll squeeze in another dreamy swim before cruising under sail.

05

One last view, one last dip

You’ll start the day with an island hike, giving you one final sweeping view over the turquoise waters and islands you’ve explored. Then it’s time for a final dip to seal the memory, before making your way back to Airlie Beach with salty smiles and full hearts.

We’ll confirm the tour is going ahead no later than 90 days before departure, or sooner when minimum numbers are reached. If you’d prefer to book your flights earlier, we recommend choosing flexible fares and arranging travel insurance at the time of booking to give yourself peace of mind.

The airport you will need to fly into is Proserpine/Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP), and Virgin and Jetstar fly here. Your return airport transfer to/from Airlie Beach is included in your tour package.

Flights need to arrive by 2:30 pm at the latest on the day of departure (day 1), and shouldn’t be booked earlier than 1.30 pm on the day final day (day 5).

Please note that we’re unable to offer refunds if you’re unable to travel or miss the start of the tour.

This is an authentic, no-frills ocean adventure – simple, raw, and beautifully real. You’ll be sleeping in basic cabins, sharing hearty meals, and spending most of your time outdoors, immersed in the natural beauty of the Whitsundays.

Conditions can change with the weather, and that’s all part of the magic. If you arrive with an open mind, a spirit of adventure, and a go-with-the-flow attitude, we’ll take care of the rest.

Accommodation for all four nights is aboard the tall ship ‘Solway Lass’.

There are nine basic air-conditioned cabins onboard, featuring a mixture of shared bunk rooms (singles), private doubles, and private doubles with en-suite facilities available.

In most cases, there are only two guests per cabin.

The clean, but rustic window-less sleeping cabins are befitting a 120-year-old tall ship, and you will likely be taken aback initially by the small size and limited standing and storage room.

Don’t worry, the cabins are primarily designed for sleeping in only.

The beds in the cabins are bunk-style, so some beds require climbing up to (including in the Private Double/Twin cabins). Please factor this in, and talk to us, if this may present an issue for you.

Dinner on the first night, three meals on day 2, 3 & 4, and breakfast on the final morning. There are also snacks available, and coffee, tea and tap water. All meals are freshly prepared onboard buffet-style. Most dietary needs can be catered for with advanced notice.

A standard day’s meals include a light early breakfast, hot (post-swim brunch), light lunch, evening snack, dinner and dessert.

Yes. The following diets can be catered for: lactose-free, gluten intolerance, nut/fish allergies, vegetarian and vegan diets. You will be asked for your dietary requirements before the tour.

Signature Swim Escape, Swim & Hike Adventure

You will need to be able to swim at least 1km non-stop freestyle (i.e. you may have previously completed a 1km ocean swim event).

We welcome swimmers of all speeds, however, there may be times when we need to give you a quick lift in our support boat if you’re getting too far behind on longer swims. This won’t be a problem if you stick to the shorter distance options on each swim.

And, of course, you can hop out of the water at any time.

Enduro Swim Edition

The Big Swim Edition is designed for strong swimmers who are comfortable covering longer distances. To get the most out of this tour, you should be confident swimming at least 3km non-stop and able to maintain a cruising pace of 2 minutes per 100 metres or faster.

Big Splash Family Tour

To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience, children joining the Big Splash Family Tour should have already been enrolled in swimming lessons, feel confident in open water, and enjoy swimming. We also recommend parents bring a wetsuit or flotation jacket for younger swimmers, as these are not provided on board and can offer extra peace of mind during water activities.

Yes! We welcome friends/partners to join swimmers at a ratio of one non-swimming guest to one swimming guest. Non-swimming guests can participate in all activities except the scheduled ocean swims.

Absolutely. We have a comprehensive water safety plan in place for all swims, with two inflatable support boats on the water at all times.

Swimmers will stay in clear water between the shoreline and the support boats. While a boat may not always be within talking distance, our team will always have eyes on you.

If you need to exit the water at any time, simply raise your hand and a support crew member will come to assist you.
