These swims are about the journey, not the stopwatch. You’ll move at your own pace, take in the scenery, and embrace the freedom of open water without any pressure to perform.

Swim smart, swim supported

Wearing tow floats for visibility and safety, you’ll follow close to the coastline with expert water safety on hand. The group naturally spreads out, giving everyone space while staying connected.

Pause at pristine beaches along the way to catch your breath, perhaps walk a section, or power through from start to finish. Fast swimmers can double back for bonus distance – just rejoin the group to finish together.

The perfect place to go long

With calm conditions, full support, and shallow water close to shore, this is the ideal setting to push your limits. No experience with long swims? No problem. We’ll guide you every stroke of the way.

Swim course overview

Over three unforgettable point-to-point swims, you’ll journey through the best of Jervis Bay – starting from the wild, remote coastline of Booderee National Park, gliding past the iconic white sands of Hyams Beach, and finishing in the heart of Huskisson. Each leg offers something different, with calm waters, rich marine life, and incredible natural beauty at every turn.

Swim #1: Murrays Beach to Green Patch

This opening leg begins where the bush meets the sea, hugging the wild coastline of Booderee National Park. You’ll swim past forested headlands, turquoise shallows, and the white sands of Hole in the Wall, finishing at the sheltered haven of Green Patch Beach. A spectacular start to the weekend.

Can be shortened by up to 1.5km by walking the final section along Green Point.

6km

Swim #2: Green Patch to Plantation Point

Beginning from Green Patch, this swim arcs around the boundary of HMAS Creswell – a rare and exclusive privilege – then stretches out along the world-famous white sands of Hyams Beach. It’s long, smooth, and visually stunning, offering a true taste of Jervis Bay’s iconic beauty.

A coastal trail follows the route from Hyams Beach for those who wish to shorten.

7km

Swim #3: Plantation Point to Huskisson

This feel-good final leg winds past a string of friendly local beaches – Nelsons, Barfleur, Orion, Collingwood – and finishes right in the heart of Huskisson. It’s relaxed, social, and satisfying, with calm water, gentle curves, and a celebratory vibe as you glide into Shark Net Beach.

Long, sandy stretches offer the opportunity to take extended breaks.

Frequently asked questions

We’ve answered the most common questions here to help you plan with confidence.

We will confirm the tour is going ahead, 90 days before scheduled departure, or when minimum numbers are met, whichever comes first.

The closest major airport is Sydney Airport (SYD), around 2.5 to 3 hours’ drive from Jervis Bay. Canberra Airport (CBR) is another option, just over 3 hours away.

The easiest option is to drive from Sydney, heading south via Wollongong and Nowra. You can also take a train to Bomaderry (Nowra) and then connect via local bus or rideshare into the bay area.

Aim to arrive in Huskisson by 5 pm on Thursday for our welcome function, dinner, and guest speaker. Most accommodation check-ins open earlier in the afternoon, so you may wish to arrive ahead of time and settle in. The weekend will wrap up by lunchtime on the final day, after our closing swim, brunch, and farewell ceremony – leaving you plenty of time to travel home comfortably that afternoon.

There’s a range of places to stay – from holiday parks and beach cabins to boutique hotels, motels, and Airbnbs. Look for accommodation in Huskisson, Vincentia, or Hyams Beach to be close to the action. Book early (generous cancellation options are best) – it’s a popular spot!

We’ve got you covered from the moment you arrive. All the key meals for the weekend are included:

Day 1: Dinner

Day 2: Post-swim coffee and snacks, late lunch

Day 3: Post-swim coffee and snacks, dinner

Day 4: Brunch

You’ll have plenty of nourishing, fuss-free food to keep you fuelled for each swim and fully in the moment.

Absolutely. We can cater for gluten-free and vegetarian needs, and if you have something more specific, just send us an email. We can’t promise the world, but we’ll do our very best to look after you.

Not necessarily. You don’t need to have done big long-distance swims before — in fact, for many people this weekend becomes their first. What matters most is having a solid swimming base to build from. As a guide, you should be:

  • Comfortable swimming in open water
  • Regularly completing around 2 km ocean swims
  • Able to swim continuously for about an hour in the pool (e.g. a squad session)

With that foundation, you’ll be surprised by what you can achieve across the weekend.

This isn’t a race, and the pace is relaxed and supportive, but we do need to keep the group moving together. Very slow swimmers may find the distances challenging, so if you’re unsure whether you’re ready, get in touch and we’ll help you figure it out.

The first swim is 6km, the second swim is 7km, and the third swim is 5km. These are the standard distances.

If you’re quick, you might be able to swim longer by doubling back, and if you’re not feeling it, you’ll be able to shorten it up by walking sections along the beach or coastal trail.

Our Long Swim Weekend is all about relaxed, endurance-style swimming rather than racing. The focus is on swimming together, soaking up the scenery, and finding your rhythm in the ocean at a steady, sustainable pace.

We’ll aim to swim at around 2:30 per 100 metres or 2.4km/h. It’s a comfortable, conversational tempo that lets you find your flow, enjoy the moment, and make the most of each swim without feeling rushed. Your pace can be faster or a little slower, up to 3:00 per 100m (2km/h), but at this end of the scale, you may be asked to walk sections if you’ve fallen too far behind.

Whilst there are no strict cut-off times, we do need to keep the group moving at a steady pace to stay together and within our safety plan. For those who would like it, there’ll be opportunities to regroup every 1.5–2 km to float, rehydrate, and reconnect before setting off again. Fins are welcome if you’d like a little extra comfort or confidence in keeping pace with the group.

Faster swimmers are absolutely welcome too – if you find yourself ahead, you can loop back or swim gentle arcs to rejoin the pack while keeping your rhythm and adding a bit of extra distance if you wish.

Our support team will be alongside the group throughout, and rest breaks can be taken as needed – the focus is on enjoying the experience, not racing the clock.

Not sure if this suits your ability? Get in touch and we’ll help guide you.

Absolutely. Each swim includes opportunities to rest, skip sections, or walk along the beach if you’d prefer to shorten the distance.

For instance, on the first 5km swim, you can shave off up to 1.75km by walking Green Patch Beach.

During the second 7km swim, a 2.5km stretch runs along Hyams Beach, where you can mix in some walking, and the coastal trail remains accessible for the rest of the route.

On the final 6km swim, the long, sandy stretch between Collingwood and Huskisson Beaches (about 2.8km) offers plenty of chances to take a breather or stroll a section.

It’s all about enjoying the experience at your own pace.

The event is designed as a full journey, but if you need to skip a leg or shorten a swim, that’s okay. It’s your weekend, and we’ll help you make it work.

We get it – 18km sounds like a huge swim! But here’s the truth: most people who join us have never done anything like this before. They start out thinking the same thing you are now… and end up finishing stronger, prouder, and grinning from ear to ear.

You don’t need to be a marathon swimmer – just a capable swimmer with a bit of prep behind you and a willingness to give it a go. Across three days, the energy builds, the confidence grows, and you’ll find yourself swimming further (and feeling better) than you ever thought possible.

We’ll guide you, support you, and cheer you on every stroke of the way. This isn’t about racing – it’s about discovering what you’re truly capable of in one of the most stunning ocean settings imaginable. Trust us, you’ve got this.

Absolutely. Many of our swimmers come from a pool background, and with the right mindset and a little preparation, they transition beautifully into the open water.

We’ll ease you in gently, helping you get comfortable with the natural rhythm of the ocean – the movement, the salt, the freedom. You’ll learn to work with the water, not against it, and discover just how enjoyable swimming outside the lane lines can be.

By the end of the weekend, you’ll not only be confident in the ocean, you’ll wonder why you ever stayed indoors.

Yes! Our team provides full water safety, land support, and in-water guidance so you can swim with complete confidence. But one of the biggest sources of support comes from your fellow swimmers – they’ll motivate you, cheer you on, and often swim stroke for stroke beside you.

It’s an incredible feeling knowing you’re part of a group that’s all in it together – looking out for one another, sharing the highs, and celebrating every finish as a team.

We take care of all the logistics. Buses will move swimmers to and from start and finish points for each leg.

Absolutely. The Long Swim Weekend is built around community just as much as it’s built around the swims. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be part of a warm, welcoming crew who are all here for the same thing – to stretch themselves, soak up the coastline, and share the experience together.

Across the weekend, there’s plenty of relaxed time to connect, swap stories, celebrate each swim, and enjoy meals side-by-side. It’s a chance to meet like-minded ocean lovers, form new friendships, and feel genuinely supported through each stage of the journey.

Whether you’re joining solo or with a buddy, you’ll feel part of the group from the very start. This isn’t a go-it-alone weekend – it’s a shared adventure where everyone lifts each other up.

The Long Swim Weekend is designed as a fully immersive experience, not just a series of swims. Our goal is to bring swimmers together to share the journey, build community, and experience what long-distance ocean swimming is all about.

Because the weekend is built around that shared, all-in experience, we don’t offer a reduced-price option for partial participation.
