About

Take part in a 3 km challenge around a 1 km course set over Moore Reef, 50 kms off the coast of Cairns, and take the time to simply cruise over the reef.

The Great Barrier Reef is designated one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World and these swims are a unique opportunity to enjoy this phenomenon of a race above beautiful coral, sea life and the crystal clear near-transcendental aqua blue ocean.

Your day out will include all the opportunities to snorkel and scuba, but as a venue for a race -you will never forget it.

Course Descriptions

The Challenge

This swim is spectacular -skirting the edges of a section of the barrier reef and offering prime viewing as you race.

The 3 km race will start first, separated into age groupings if necessary.

Timing is monitored by Masters Swimming Queensland, and all times and placings will be recorded.

Swim The Reef

If you simply want to enjoy swimming over the Great Barrier Reef, with no time or real racing pressure, this is the one for you. Regular rules are thrown out of the window -wear fins, snorkels, paddles, whatever you choose. Swim 1 km around a course you will die for, and take your time!

This swim is spectacular -skirting the edges of this section of the barrier reef and offering prime viewing as you race.

While You're There

A Full Day out on the Great Barrier Reef from Quicksilver:

Return boat trip to the reef -approximately 1.5 hours in each direction across the stunning Barrier Reef waters. Departing Cairns Marina at approximately 8.30 am
Morning and afternoon tea on board
Reef presentation by a marine biologist
Hot and cold tropical smorgasbord lunch
All snorkelling equipment provided
Stinger/Lycra Suits provided if desired
Qualified lifeguard supervision throughout the swims and stay on the reef
Underwater observatory fish and coral viewing
Coral viewing by semi-submersible vessels
Fish feeding [conducted by crew]
Medical support
Return approximately 5.30 pm
