The small south coast town of Broulee hosts a lovely point-to-point 1.4km ocean swim from the south side of Broulee Island, north around the headland to the breakers of Broulee Beach.
Swims in male and female categories start at Novice, U12 and U14 over 500 m and then over 1.4km for U16, U20, and then 10-year age groups to Over 80, Multi-disability class and the Open Ocean Swim. Swimming in flippers has its own category for mixed ages.
This year for the first time there will be a fast swim event, the 200+m Dash 4 Cash. It will start and end on the beach and will be held after the Open swim.
Novice, U12 and U14 receive gold, silver and bronze medals. The fastest male and female from U16, U20 and age-group swimmers to Over 80 win $100 in prizemoney, then Silver and Bronze medals for the next fastest. For the Open swimmers, there is $400 for 1st, $150 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd on offer. The Dash 4 Cash gets a percentage of the entry fee for this event up to $400.
Entries close at 6 pm Friday, 1 March to secure a souvenir t-shirt.
Plan to spend the whole weekend in the Eurobodalla region – a lush playground of ocean, river, forest and farmland – which stretches from South Durras to Tilba Tilba in the south.
The 1.4km Hotondo Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim commences in the quiet waters of Shark Bay on Broulee Island with the course rounding the headland to South Broulee Beach with a surf beach exit. New highly visible buoys have been purchased to assist course delineation.
The 500m and Dash 4 Cash swim commences on South Broulee and is an out and back course with exit through the Hotondo Finish line on the surf beach.
If conditions are unsafe the Ocean Swim will be moved to the southern end of North Broulee Beach.

Situated 20 kilometres south of Batemans Bay, Broulee is a long sweeping beach protected by Broulee Island. The Broulee Island Nature Reserve is connected to the mainland by a permanent sandbar. You can walk across this land bridge from the south end of North Broulee Beach and enjoy spectacular marine scenery, vibrant native plants and marine birdlife.
Make a weekend of it in the Eurobodalla region -which stretches from South Durras to Tilba Tilba in the south. Dive into ocean-washed towns like Batemans Bay, Broulee, Narooma, Moruya (find the local granite mines that were used to build the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and Central Tilba, pick up some of NSW’s best seafood and artisanal produce direct from makers, follow ancient Aboriginal song lines to feel a deep connection to the land or just find a stretch of beach of your very own.
Travel by car is 2 1/2 hours from Canberra, just under 3-hours from Wollongong and 4-hours from Sydney.
These small-town swims rarely have parking issues – you’ll be right.
