Regardless of whether you come in first or second to last, you'll feel like royalty as you gracefully glide up the beach and under the finish line at the King of the Bays. Why? Because, you have conquered the noble challenge of a classic open water swim in the stately surrounds of Takapuna Beach.
With Rangitoto watching your every stroke, along with the large safety contingent of life guards from Surf Life Saving New Zealand, the stunning scene leaves you poised to see off summer in style.
Consisting of four different swim events, the King of the Bays is the seventh, and final, event in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series, and provides an ocean swim event for all ages and abilities:
'I'm Going Long' 2.8km - a swim along the coast from Milford Beach to Takapuna Beach
'Step it Up' 1km - off Takapuna Beach, an achievable distance for individuals with swimming experience
'Give it a Go' 500m - off Takapuna Beach, a great introduction to open water swimming
'OceanKids' 200m - a swim for children aged between 7-12 years old, consisting of a 200m shallow water swim along the Takapuna Beach shore line, lined with Surf Life Saving NZ guards
