Four Mile Beach ocean swim
Sun, 10 Sep 2017
Port Douglas, Queensland, is famous for its beautiful tropical climate and crystal blue Coral Sea and the fabulous Four Mile Beach is the location of this event.
There’s something for everyone, from the beginner to the hardcore, with a unique mix of short and long distances on offer from 500m to 6.4km (4 miles).
Organiser Irene Cats says the reason she organised this swim was because she wanted to swim a long distance ocean swim and there wasn’t a lot of them in North Queensland – she had no idea if there were any other crazy people with the same aspiration, but it seems there is after all.
The event is run by local swim school Swimfit with money raised supporting the Port Douglas SLSC.
The perfect entry level distance is on offer, and because it’s last on the schedule you’ll be able to watch the longer distances first, or use it as a cool down after you’ve tackled one of the marathon swims!
One mile swim
You can get your swim over in one lap if you take on the one mile swim, it’s simply one lap of the 1.6km course.
Two mile swim
About the length of the average pool swim squad training session, this swim takes in two laps of the 1.6km course for its 3.2km.
Four mile swim
Swim four laps of the 1.6km course to complete the namesake four miles, or 6.4km.
While you’re there

The Court House Hotel was built in 1878 and today still serves up the atmosphere you’d expect from all those years of history and tradition.
