Survey winner Nicola enjoys the trip of a lifetime

Nicola Logan was the lucky winner of our annual ocean swimming survey, booking herself two nights for two on Hamilton Island to participate in the Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim and indulge in island life for the weekend.

Nicola, who is from Coogee, Sydney, took along her ocean swimming buddy Elisha, and this was her experience in her own words…

“Hamilton Island was a trip of a lifetime.

Catching up with Susie O’Neill and her husband was great fun, we shared a lot of swimming stories and I even discovered that a pen pal of hers from Scotland was a guy I used to swim with!

We then enjoyed a relaxing swim together out to the buoy in the balmy temperature water.

The Whitehaven beach swim was fantastic.

The boat trip there was breathtaking and then we were ferried into shore by smaller boats. Standing on the start line with three Olympians was pretty amazing but perhaps made me go out a little too fast!

We swam about 900m down the beach before turning to swim the same distance parallel to the first line of cans – sounds simple but in fact proved very easy to swim off course, which I did spectacularly.

Crossing the finish line I was congratulated by Susie and her husband, who we then caught up with back at the presentations on Hamilton Island.

There were lots of great conversations with current and former Olympians.

On the final day, we managed to walk/run/crawl the back nine of the picturesque and very undulating Hamilton Island Golf Course, located on Dent Island, a short boat ride from Hamilton Island.

What an amazing weekend, thank you OceanFit & Hamilton Island for the best prize ever!
