NZ Ocean Swim Series – Bay of Islands Classic
Sat, 16 Dec 2017
Nestled in the stunning Bay of Islands, New Zealand’s first capital Russell will play host to this summer’s Bay of Islands Classic – the second of seven events in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series.
For the first time in this event’s 9 year history, the 3.3km ‘I’m Going Long’ course will be in reverse, starting over at Paihia Beach and finishing over at the main event site in Russell. As a Series first, this distance will also be a twilight swim!
Consisting of four different swim events, the Bay of Islands Classic provides an ocean swim event for all ages and abilities:
- ‘I’m Going Long’ 3.3km – a swim across the harbour from Paihia Beach to Russell
- ‘Step it Up’ 1km – taking place off Russell, an achievable distance for individuals with swimming experience
- ‘Give it a Go’ 500m – taking place off Russell, a great introduction to open water swimming
- ‘OceanKids’ 200m – a swim for children aged between 7-12 years old, consisting of a 200m shallow water swim along the Russell shore line, lined with Surf Life Saving NZ guards.
We’ve done our best to provide up-to-date information on all the swims we list on our calendar.
