Don’t worry, you’re not alone – the chances are just about everyone else on the beach will be nervous too!
If you’re taking on an ocean swim for the first time, swimming a longer distance or heading into conditions that are right on your limit, here’s eight ocean swimming event day tips to help you conquer your goal.
The Cole Classic is Sydney’s favourite ocean swim and the first ocean swim for most ocean swimmers that come through OceanFit’s programs due to its timing after the new year festive season and the festival atmosphere created by the organisers.
If you’ve been holding off participating in your first ocean swim then there is no better opportunity than the Cole Classic. It’s perfect timing after new year and allows you plenty of time to prepare.
The course is beginner friendly and the sights under the water can add a level of excitement you’ll be hard-pressed to find at any other ocean swim.

For many, Michael Klim would need no introduction – he’s one of Australia’s most successful swimmers of all time. He is a world champion, a world record holder and a three-time Olympian with medals from all three Olympic Games, including two gold medals.

Klim is also the Event Ambassador for the Noosa Summer Swim and regularly takes part in the events himself. Having made the post-career transition from pool to surf himself, he has some great tips for newcomers to the open water.
